Refined {A Sunday Devotional}

Is God refining you?

Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.

~ Daniel 11:35 ~

As we go through life we encounter struggles, hardships, and to be honest things don't always go our way. God's word tells us that we stumble so can be refined. I don't know how much you know about the refining of gold, but it is done by putting it in a fire, by heating it up. Sometimes in life, God allows us to experience things that aren't pleasant, so that he can refine us. He uses these unpleasant experiences to teach us a little bit more about Him. I don't know what you are going through right now, or what you have been through in the past, but it's very possible that God wants to use whatever it is to teach you something.

If your parents are going through a divorce, maybe God wants you to learn how important relationships are. If you are failing a class, maybe God wants you to learn the importance of doing your best, and/or to be a good steward of your time. Maybe you have been diagnosed with cancer or some other disease, God could use this to teach you to live each moment for Him, to make each decision count. The possibilities are endless, but i guarantee that if God is allowing a struggle or trial in your life, then there is something that you can learn from it.

Reflection:
Take a moment and think about the trials in your life, both past and present. For the ones that are over, can you remember what your learned from them? For the ones that you are going through now, can you see a possible purpose?

Application Step:
Spend some time reading and thinking about the fruit of the Spirit (Galations 5:13-26). is God refining you and cultivation His fruit in your life in some way?

Have a great day! :)

  2. I've never discovered this verse before... it's really encouraging to know that struggles you're going through are for the glory of God, and they are helping your walk with him!
