Let The Rain Fall

I wanted it to rain.

I really did.

Just as much as everyone else.

It was cold enough, so why not?

I wanted for there to be rain, but the sky kept it in.

Throughout the day, I would occasionally feel a few drops here and there and I would think to myself, Oh, here it comes...

But it wouldn't happen.

The sky would keep it in.

I would see the looming, big, dark, rain clouds coming in and I would think to myself, Oh, any minute now...

But it didn't happen.

The rain didn't come.

Because the sky kept it in.

Let The Grass Go ~ A Short Story

"I can't take this anymore!" I cried, sinking to my knees.
My voice was lost on the vast prairie, and for some reason that only made me angrier. So I took a clump of prairie grass in my fist and tore it out of the ground. But before I could demolish it any further, Ciera stopped me by placing her hand on mine. Lilly came around on my other side and put her arm around me for support. I flinched, but didn't draw away. That's when Ciera started talking.
"Look at me, Miri."
I reluctantly looked up at her. Her serious blue eyes returned my gaze.
"I know this year has been hard for you. I get it. I really do. And I'm so sorry."
I could feel the tears start to bubble up inside of me again. How many times had I heard the words, I'm sorry? Too many times.
"You have every right to cry and shut the world out, but I think it's time. It's time you move on."
I opened my mouth to reply, but she wasn't done yet.
"I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but I hate seeing you like this, Miri. I want my friend back."
Now she was the one crying.
"I want to see you smile again. I want to see you laugh again. Please, Miri. You have your whole life ahead of you. You're going to do amazing things, I know, because you're an amazing girl. Don't spend time mulling about the past when you could be enjoying the present and looking forward to the future."
"Well, what if I don't want to move on? Why did all these things have to happen to me anyways?"
This time, Lilly answered.
"I don't know, Miri. I don't know. But everyone experiences some kind of pain in their life. That's when you grow and learn the most. I know it's hard to deal with right now, but we're here for you. We're here to help you and be there every step of the way. Because that's what friends are for."
Her words startled me and made me realize how right she was. Everyone wants happiness, no one wants pain. But you can't have a rainbow without a little rain. Come on, Miri. Pull yourself together, I heard a small voice say inside my head. I took a deep breath. I can do this. It's going to be okay.
Slowly, I stood up, the prairie grass still clutched in my hand. And, looking into the faces of my friends, I smiled for the first time in months. I was ready to let the grass go.

the gift of a friend is more precious than gold <3 keep them close to you

Have a great day! :)

Sisters {A Short Story}

Smiling, I reluctantly put my hands over my eyes.
"No peeking!" she instructed, and then disappeared into the grass.
I started counting. "One, two, three..." until I got to thirty.
"Ready or not, here I come!" I opened my eyes, squinting against the brilliant sunlight.
Standing, I started moving among the grass, trying to think where a little girl might hide.
The meadow wasn't very big - it only covered about half a football field. There were big, climbing trees on the outer rim and they surrounded the meadow, which made it feel more enclosed and protected. Many a summer day had been spent here, just me and my sister. It had become our favorite place in the world.
A slight breeze came by and blew my blond hair away from my face. I sighed and breathed deeply, relishing in the slight break from the heat.
I followed the sound of a bird calling into the trees, figuring she may have decided to climb one of them.
The trees were densely packed together and blocked out most of the light. More and more birds started breaking into song and I sang with them.
Soon, I realized that someone else was singing along too. I stopped abruptly and slowly looked up. And there she was. My sister.
"Oh! You found me!" she exclaimed, realizing her mistake.
I grinned back in mockery.
She quickly slid down the tree and landed with a thump on the forest floor.
"I found you!" I picked her up and swung her around, and we laughed all the while. Then, I set her down and we began running back to the meadow, with our bird flying above us. We ran until we couldn't run any more, and so we plopped down the ground and laid on our backs. As I was staring up into the blue sky, I remembered another game we always played.
"That cloud looks like a flower," I said, pointing.
"Well, that one looks like a cat."
We smiled and continued our game for quite a while, but then she found the one.
"That one looks like two sisters. See? They're holding hands, just like you and me," she said, reaching for my hand.
I glanced over at her, my heart filling with joy. I loved the way her little hands felt in mine. The way her eyes sparkled when she was excited. The way she laughed, a loud, bubbly laugh when she was happy. The way she grabbed on to me when she was scared or didn't know what to do. The way she followed me, studying my every move and trying to be like me because she looked up to me. I was her hero. Her best friend. Her role model. Her sister. And I loved her very much.

sisters are a blessing <3 cherish your sister
