Comfort {A Sunday Devotional}

{picture}

May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.

~ Psalm 119:76 ~

The love that God has for us is unconditional. He made us in our mother's wombs, and loved us before we were born. The Bible talks so much about God's love for us, it also tells we are to find comfort in that love. But where do we find our comfort?

There are so many place's that we can look to find earthly comfort, temporary comfort. We may look to a box of chocolate, or a pint of ice cream. We may go shopping, or out with friends. We may dive into a book, or plug into a movie.

But I want to ask you another question, have you ever looked to others to find your comfort instead of God? I know I have. It's so easy to compare ourselves to others to make ourselves feel better. It's so east to say, at least I don't look like so and so, or I'm glad I didn't have that happen to me. Even something small like feeling better because the girl next to you in science class scored lower than you on her homework or a test. While those things might not seem all that bad, they really can be. When we do that, we are getting our comfort by putting others down, by pointing out their flaws or shortcomings. I bet some of you are saying right now, well I would never say that out loud! Now, while that's a good thing, it still doesn't make thinking those things right. Or maybe you would only say them to your best friend.

That still doesn't make it okay. Today's verse tells us that we are to find our comfort, our encouragement,  in the love of God.

It tells us that we should find our comfort in the promise that His love is unfailing, not in the fact that our lives could be worse. The Bible tells us in Psalm 139:14 that we were wonderfully and fearfully made. That means that God's works are wonderful, all of them. That includes us, the girl that sits next to us in science, the girls that we think aren't as pretty as us, everyone. God made all of us, and he made us all wonderful.

So when we find comfort in putting others down, not only are we finding comfort away from God's love, but we are also putting down his creations. Finding comfort in others failures or shortcomings is not true comfort. Feeling beautiful because you aren't as homely as someone else isn't true beauty.

True beauty comes from knowing that God made you, and loves you; and also from loving others because God made them too. So I encourage you today to find your true beauty in Christ, and to find your comfort in His unfailing love.

Reflection:
Do I put others down to make me feel better about myself?

Application step:
Try to go all day without saying or thinking anything negative about anyone else. If you do, repent, and start over!

Have a great day! :)

Week Two

Today I will write about what makes me feel free...

God: I'd be nothing without him.

Dreaming: I love dreaming! It's a place where you can do whatever you feel like without a care in the world. Except, I hate it when something is chasing you and you can't move. :P :D

Reading: You can travel to another place and become apart of the character's lives. It's awesome. :)

Swimming: Summer is probably my favorite season. I get so excited when I first dive into the pool on a hot day. Being under the water is almost magical. And goggles must be one of the best things ever invented!

Riding horses: There's just something so calming, yet fierce about horses. I feel so alive when I canter my favorite horse, Dancer, that all I think about is, "I never want this to stop!"

Singing: Whenever I get up on a stage and sing for people, I get this feeling of immense joy and freedom. Entertaining people with my talent is a blessing!

Have a great day! :)

Babysitting and Audition Results

It's Monday again!

I'll get right to it: so you all know I auditioned for a play over the weekend and they've posted the results! I am.......... a wolf! :D Even though I'm disappointed I didn't get Mowgli's mother (she's a pretty big part!), I'm sure being a wolf will suit me just fine. After all, it's only my third play! I can't wait for our first practice on Friday!

Today, I babysat a 3-month old baby for 8 and a half hours with my sister! :O It was a looooooooong day of changing diapers, bottle feeding, rocking him to sleep, I was exhausted. But it pays well, so it's worth it! I do the same thing tomorrow and Wednesday - though for much shorter!

Tomorrow or Wednesday I will post Week Two! :)

P.S. I got the AG doll Nicki! :D She is coming in the mail soon.

The Cute Side #14

Ah, I love these. :) How is your Saturday going? Mine has been lazy except for this morning because I was called back! Let me explain - yesterday I auditioned for the next play, The Jungle Book! :D I was a little nervous of course, though I didn't want to be, and I had a lot of fun with my friends and I felt I did well. Then this morning, I was called back to read lines for Mowgli's mother! I really hope I get the part, but this other girl did really good too and she's taller... :P Well, whatever I get, I'm sure it will awesome. :)
