A Post by Felicity

Hi! :) It's Felicity again. Since we won't be available Saturday and Sunday, we will post the weekly book reviews and The Cute Side today and tomorrow!

Umbrella Summer
by Lisa Graff

Summary: Annie Richards knows there are a million things to look out for—bicycle accidents, food poisoning, chicken pox, smallpox, typhoid fever, runaway zoo animals, and poison oak. That's why being careful is so important, even if it does mean giving up some of her favorite things, like bike races with her best friend, Rebecca, and hot dogs on the Fourth of July. Everyone keeps telling Annie not to worry so much, that she's just fine. But they thought her brother, Jared, was just fine too, and Jared died.
It takes a new neighbor, who looks as plain as a box of toothpicks but has some surprising secrets of her own, to make Annie realize that her plans for being careful aren't working out as well as she had hoped. And with a lot of help from those around her—and a book about a pig, too—Annie just may find a way to close her umbrella of sadness and step back into the sunshine.
My thoughts: Another great book! Thoughtful and touching, with a hint of humor. The author did a great job developing Annie and I enjoyed watching her grow throughout the book.

Book Review!

Happy Friday! :) This is Felicity here (I finally get to post!) and I have a book review for today ~

The Cabinet of Wonders (The Kronos Chronicles, #1)

Summary: Petra Kronos has a simple, happy life. But it’s never been ordinary. She has a pet tin spider named Astrophil who likes to hide in her snarled hair and give her advice. Her best friend can trap lightning inside a glass sphere. Petra also has a father in faraway Prague who is able to move metal with his mind. He has been commissioned by the prince of Bohemia to build the world’s finest astronomical clock.
Petra’s life is forever changed when, one day, her father returns home—blind. The prince has stolen his eyes, enchanted them, and now wears them. But why? Petra doesn’t know, but she knows this: she will go to Prague, sneak into Salamander Castle, and steal her father’s eyes back.
Joining forces with Neel, whose fingers extend into invisible ghosts that pick locks and pockets, Petra finds that many people in the castle are not what they seem, and that her father’s clock has powers capable of destroying their world.

My Thoughts: I loved this book! It was very interesting and quite humorous. With an engaging plot and developed characters, it was a great read! I can't wait to read the next two in the series!
